We’re currently deep into winter here on the east coast and man it’s cold! The perfect thing on a freezing night is a roaring fire in the fireplace and a hot drink in hand. This Thick Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate is the ultimate drink for just that. Made with semisweet chocolate, whole milk, peanut butter, and more, it’s far from your average powdered hot chocolate.
I’ve found that using semisweet chocolate results in the perfect balance of sweet and intense chocolaty flavor. But feel free to use whatever chocolate you have on hand. I topped it all off with some homemade whipped cream and chopped peanuts. You can also top it with marshmallows or even more chocolate, because why not!?
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- ½ cup whipped cream
- ¼ cup peanuts, chopped
- In a small saucepan, heat up the whole milk and heavy cream until it’s almost boiling. Remove it from the heat and add the chocolate chips and peanut butter. After 2 minutes, whisk the mixture together until completely combined. Simmer on a low flame, stirring continuously, for 10 minutes until the mixture is thickened slightly. Pour into two large mugs and top with whipped cream and chopped peanuts.
